Description
John Patten Emmet (April 8, 1796 - August 13, 1842) was a white enslaver and Professor of Chemistry at the University of Virginia (1825-1842). The nephew of Irish nationalist Robert Emmet, he was born in Dublin, Ireland, and relocated to New York with his parents Thomas Addis Emmet and Jane Patten Emmet in 1805. He married Mary Byrd Farley Tucker in 1827 and built a house, Morea (1834-1835), near the University of Virginia.
