Description
Thomas Lewis Preston (November 20, 1812 - March 20, 1903) was a white enslaver, member of the University of Virginia Board of Visitors, and University Rector from 1864-1865. In 1861 at the age of forty-seven, he enlisted as a soldier in the army of the Confederate States of America. After one year of service, he was decommissioned as a general. He published two history books and was deeply religious. He is buried in the University of Virginia Cemetery.
