Description
Sebra was a skilled stonecutter who was claimed in ownership by white enslaver Joel Shiflett. He was involved in the construction of the Academical Village and University Cemetery, the latter of which he oversaw the construction of. When not contracted to the University, Sebra lived and labored on the Shiflett Plantation in Albemarle County, Virginia. After Shiflett's death in 1834, Sebra was claimed in ownership by Shiflett's widow, Sarah.
