Description: The University of Virginia Proctor reported that Lawrence, claimed in ownership by white enslaver Edwin Conway, "had been negligent in cleaning the arcades, having swept the offall upon the Lawn, and allowed the ashes & from the fires used in kindling in the morning to remain on the arcades for days together." This event is recorded in a January 8, 1838 entry in the Minutes of the General Faculty, Volume 5.
