Description
George Blaettermann (1782-1850) was a white enslaver and University of Virginia Professor of Modern Languages. He was born in Langensalza, Saxony, and joined the faculty at the University of Virginia in 1824. In 1840, Blaettermann legally separated from his wife Elizabeth Charlotte Dean Blaettermann and was dismissed from the university for physically assaulting her in public more than once. His dismissal followed years of complaints about his unprofessional conduct and unpopular, ineffective teaching. He resided in Albemarle County.
