Description: A letter from white enslaver Edmund Bacon to University Proctor Arthur S. Brockenbrough dated December 16, 1821, discusses the possibility of Isham, John, Lewis, and Wilson being allowed to return home to visit their wives during the course of the year they were to be contracted to labor at the University of Virginia. Bacon writes, “I have consented that if the men can make arrangements with you about comeing [sic] to see their wives that you may take the whole four at $70 round…”
