Description

Joseph Brand (1785-1826) was a white enslaver who lived in Albemarle County, Virginia. Brand contracted the labor of the people he claimed in ownership to the University of Virginia. He died in 1826 at the age of forty-one. Brand's will emancipated Caroline Wilson and her five children, four of which were fathered by Brand - Elizabeth Brand, Adeline Brand Imes, Mildred Ann Brand Davis, and James Andrew Brand.
