1838-01-08, Lawrence, Resistance (Work Slowdown or Stoppage)
The University of Virginia Proctor reported that Lawrence, claimed in ownership by white enslaver Edwin Conway, "had been negligent in cleaning the arcades, having swept the offall upon the Lawn, and allowed the ashes & from the fires used in kindling in the morning to remain on the arcades for days together." This event is recorded in a January 8, 1838 entry in the Minutes of the General Faculty, Volume 5.

White enslaver and hotekeeper Edwin Conway defended Lawrence and his hotel against assertions by the faculty that the arcades around his hotel were both not properly cleaned and not cleaned between Christmas and the New Year. 1839-02-24, Fielding, Violence (Physical Assault)
On February 24, 1839, Fielding was violently assaulted by students Franklin English and Madison McAfee between Wertenbaker's and McKennie's store. When Fielding's white enslaver University of Virginia professor Charles Bonnycastle attempted to stop the beating, McAfee grabbed Bonnycastle by the collar and used "threatening...Profane and abusive language" toward him. Despite Bonnycastle's intervention, English and McAfee continued to mercilessly beat Fielding "in such a manner as to endanger his life."
This event is recorded in the Minutes of the General Faculty, March 2, 1839, Volume 5, and the Journals of the Chairman of the Faculty.

1850-04-24, Unidentified Child (Referred to as "small negro girl"), Violence (Sexual Assault)
An unidentified child (referred to as a "small negro girl") was violently assaulted and raped by three University of Virginia students George H. Hardy, Armistead C. Eliason, and James E. Montandon in a field near the boarding houses of Col. Michael Johnson and Mr. Leake. This violent crime was witnessed and stopped by several University of Virginia students, including Daniel B. Conrad, John B. Eastham, and Richard Venable Gaines. The perpetrators, Hardy, Eliason, and Montandon fled the scene and escaped from "the Civil Authority." They were expelled by the University. This event was recorded in Faculty Minutes, April 24, 1850.
